Week 28 - Farewell Millie.

Week beginning July 6th 2015

How the time rocketed along now Millie only had days left with us. As a final parting experience, we did a day trip to Venice on Monday. This city is unique enough to make the effort, despite the heat.

We wandered aimlessly as you do around Venice. We had yummy pizza, at least I did, the girls all chose varieties with hot chips on the top. I tried a piece, I don't really get it. Millie splurged a bit in Venice, getting herself a watch and a cute jumpsuit. Of course we had gelati.

We made it to Piazza San Marco And the Bridge of Sighs.

By now the girls had had enough so we caught a boat taxi to our car park. A girl near us on the boat fainted because she was fitting. She wasn't out for long, but the girls discussed people having fits for the remainder of the boat ride.

On Tuesday I had the second chapter in the saga that is getting my Aus Licence renewed. First we all dropped Justin off at Malpensa for a three week stint in Australia for the work Annual Ball and conferences. Then we headed to Monza to meet Alessandra, who had very kindly organised a meeting with a notary, who is authorised to witness my signature. The Notary was uncomfortable not stamping my photograph to make it official, even though he had signed the back of it. If VicRoads would have accepted it, I would have got him to put the stamp right over my face. it is possible the worst photo of me ever, and I may be stuck with it for ten years. I will give all the paper work to Millie to take back to Aus. Justin will pick it up from her and try to get the licence done for me at VicRoads. This is a more reliable and faster way of doing it than the post. Sadly I kissed a yellow pole with the van on the way out of the car park after seeing the notary. If I had been in a Fiat Panda I might have seen the pole. Ho hum, that's life in Italy. Better an incident there than on all the highways we'd been on in the last three weeks.

Wednesday Millie packed her bag, then we visited Acquaworld for six hours. Back to where Georgina whacked her head in the Magic Eye tunnel. Georgie conquered her demons and went down again, so no permanent mental scars there. We had pizza in town and one last gelati with Millie She chose pera and mentha di pancerali, the mint is a top choice in my humble opinion. How very sad we will be to see her go. Phoebe did a drawing for her which we gave to her that night.

The next morning we had farewell Bircher Muesli, complete with lamponi (raspberries). Delicious.

Millie had one final pat for Claude, she must have been thinking of her dog Heston when she played with Claude.

We got to the airport with plenty of time to spare. We did some final souvenir shopping with Millie, had a light lunch then had our slightly tearful farewell. Well done Millie, it was a pleasure to have you and we hope you can come again.
The rest of the week was very quiet, we were all in recovery mode. The nights are around 28 degrees, so we haven't been sleeping too well. We are all on the two mattresses on the floor in the lounge. I haven't been able to contemplate sleeping upstairs, che schifo (disgusting, yuck).
