Week 32 - Renuka & Christopher

Week beginning 3rd of August

Monday during the day Justin flew to England (again), to return on Friday early evening. Meanwhile on Thursday the girls and I drove the short distance to Linate Airport to collect Renuka, Marlon and her cousin from London. Surprise surprise, Renuka and Chrostopher turned up, but Marlon did not travel with Renuka for her seven week holiday. I had been expecting three guests until that moment!

We got them settled in the guest house, and went for gelati and to find some bathers for Christopher as Renuka may have forgotten to mention that we had a pool for use. They are more like brother and sister the way they interact, very funny.

They went into Milan for some sight seeing and shopping the following day, and arrived after Justin returned. Christopher has some Italian language skills, so I wasn't too worried about losing these guests! Meanwhile it was the girls turn for haircuts.

Saturday was a day trip to Lake Como to swim, as we did with GP and family not so long ago. We looked around Como filling in time for the ferry departure time.

We cooled off in the pool and the lake. The pontoon was now fixed so we could jump off it into the lake. We all spent some time encouraging Lexie to jump off. She finally did once she could hold my hand, then we couldn't stop her doing it over and over again.

The only thing that stopped her continuing to jump for the next 2 hours was the storm that was heading our way, across the lake from the north.

We hurried to the ferry via a gelateria. The storm was pushing warm air our way, so Christopher's ice cream melted in a minute. He was dripping stracciatella all over the boat! By now, the storm had really hit the town of Argeno, and when crossing to the other side of the lake I thought we we going to fall to the side and capsize. The furniture started sliding across the boat and all the glasses in the canteen smashed. It was bad enough the boat couldn't stop at that town and went to the next stop. Bad luck for those passengers.

The storm blew out quickly so the rest of the trip was uneventful. Back at Como, Renuka and I ran to catch a shop before it closed, then met the others for a touristy meal with a great view of the Duomo. The evening was perfectly balmy.

Sunday involved packing for Val D'Aosta for us, and dropping Renuka and Christopher at Linate, to return to London. It was so busy there, it was a rushed farewell as I double parked. We had a lot of laughs with them both, and hope to see them again soon.

Justin dropped Claude off, and we left around 4pm. We had a cabin booked in a campsite that GP, Anna and Andrea go to each summer. The girls had a Vietnamese Chup-a-Chup that looked like The Death Star and tasted like Cola.

Week 31 - Aquatic enjoyment continues.

Week beginning 27th July

The weather eased off a little thank goodness! Though it was still hot enough to enjoy the pool.

On Monday we collected Justin from Malpensa airport. After three weeks in Melbourne, the girls were very excited to see him. He eased into the Milan time zone nicely, and has embraced the pool by swimming every day along with us. The pump and filter are now running, and I have managed to get the ph levels balanced. It is like baking a soufflé, the ingredients, treatment and temperature have to be perfect, and it only lasts five minutes. I could ph test this pool every hour and have to adjust things that often! Luckily I am not that way inclined. No one has got sick yet......

I had my hair cut. I only mention this because they dried my hair curly, and Lexie said "Yuck". Tough critic.
